New in Development: 3D-Printed Cup Holder for the Mazda MX5

At MX5Mods3D we are continuously working on designing unique and practical accessories for the Mazda MX5 community. Today we are proud to share our latest project: a 3D printed cup holder, designed for the Mazda MX5 NA and NB!

The Design Process

The idea for this cup holder came from the need for a functional and stylish solution that would fit perfectly into the MX5 interior. After several iterations, we created a design that is both sturdy and user-friendly. Below you can see a look at the current prototype.

Current Test Results and Improvement Areas

While testing the prototype we came across some areas for improvement which we are currently addressing:

  • Diameter Optimization: The current holder has a slightly too large diameter, which gives large cans some play. Although they don't tip over, we want to improve this further for a tighter fit.

  • Deeper base: To provide more stability for both small and large cans, we modified the base of the holder. This keeps drinks better in place, even during sporty driving.

Practical Assembly

The cup holder is attached with a clever clip that leaves the MX5’s interior intact. Installation is simple and ensures the holder stays firmly in place while driving.

What Can You Expect from the Final Version?

The modified version will:

  1. Suitable for both large and small cans.
  2. Provide greater stability thanks to a deeper holder.
  3. Perfectly match the stylish interior of the Mazda MX5 NA and NB.
